Jordan Gigli returns for his second season coaching the Hornet defensive line.
During his first season with the team (2011), Gigli coached defensive end Zack Nash to several honors. Nash was selected as a first team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association and the Associated Press among his numerous national accolades. Nash also was named to the all-Big Sky first team after leading the team with 10.5 sacks and 15.0 tackles-for-loss.
Prior to coming to the Hornets, Gigli was a defensive assistant for the University of Minnesota for four seasons (2007-10) where he worked primarily with the defensive line. During his time with the Golden Gophers, Gigli was responsible for the initial scouting report for all opponents along with overseeing the team’s defensive and special teams scout teams. He also coached the team’s kickers, punters and long snappers.
Gigli also has had coaching stints at Wittenberg University, Western Illinois and Trine University. At Wittenberg, he was the team’s defensive line coach and strength and conditioning coordinator in 2006. That season, the team won the North Coast Athletic Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Div. III playoffs. The Tiger defense also led the NCAC in scoring (13.7 points per game), rush defense (70.1 ypg) and total defense (242.9 ypg).
From 2004-05, Gigli was an assistant coach at Western Illinois. In his first season, he coached the Leatherneck defensive tackles. The following year, he moved to the offensive line where he coached tackles and tight ends.
Gigli’s first coaching job came at his alma mater, Trine University in Angola, Ind. During the 2003 season, he served as the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.
The Ft. Wayne, Ind., native was a four-year letterwinner for the Thunder and served as a team captain in 2002. He earned a degree in business administration from Trine in 2003 and added a master’s in sports management from Western Illinois in 2006.
Jordan and his wife, Molly, were married in July of 2009.
