John Hughes recently completed his first season on the Sacramento State coaching staff.
While assisting the defensive line, Hughes helped coach Darnell Sankey to honorable mention all-Big Sky honors. The defensive end ranked third on the team with 65 total tackles and led the team with six sacks. Sankey was the FCS National Defensive Player of the Week after recording three sacks and 4.5 tackles-for-loss
Prior to coming to Sacramento State, Hughes spent four seasons at Humboldt State, most recently serving as the tight ends coach in 2012. As a player, Hughes was a three-year starter on the offensive line for the Lumberjacks where he played both right guard and center.
The Redlands, Calif., native began his collegiate career at Western Washington but moved to HSU after the University discontinued the football program.
