    It did not take long for Troy Taylor to make history at Sacramento State. The first-year head coach was named the winner of the STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award on Wednesday after helping the Hornets win nine games in the regular season, a share of the Big Sky Conference title and a berth in to the FCS playoffs — all firsts for the program.

    Sacramento State quarterback Kevin Thomson was named a finalist for the 2019 STATS Walter Payton Award, it was announced today. The award is annually given to the top offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision.

    The Sacramento State football team will continue its historic season when it hosts Austin Peay in the second round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. The game will mark the first playoff appearance for the Hornets at the FCS level and the first by a Hornet football team since advancing to the semifinals of the 1988 NCAA Div. II playoffs.

    Sacramento State head coach Troy Taylor was named the Big Sky Coach of the Year, it was announced today. Taylor was also recently announced as a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award which goes to the top FCS coach in the nation.

    A school-record 15 Sacramento State football players were named to the all-Big Sky Conference teams, it was announced today. Among the list are a Big Sky-leading seven first team selections, including quarterback Kevin Thomson who was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year.

    The Sacramento State football team will have its season continue as it earned its first berth in to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. The Hornets received the fourth seed and will face the winner of Austin Peay and Furman on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Hornet Stadium at 6 p.m.

    The Sacramento State football team was voted fourth in the both the STATS FCS media poll and the AFCA FCS coaches poll. The rankings are the highest a Hornet team has been in either poll in the school's Div. I era. Sacramento State has now been ranked for six consecutive weeks, including the last five in the top 25.

    A punishing ground game and a stellar performance by the defense led No. 6 Sacramento State to a 31-7 win at Idaho on Saturday. With the win, the Hornets improved to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the Big Sky Conference. The team will have the chance to play for at least a share of the Big Sky title next week in the Causeway Classic.

    Sacramento State’s Elijah Dotson has been named the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in the team’s 38-14 win at Cal Poly on Saturday. The honor is the first for Dotson in his career and he becomes the third Hornet player to earn the award in the last three weeks.
