SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A day after signing wide receiver Xavier Mason and running back Xavier Ugorji, the Sacramento State football program announced that tight end Charlie McBride has inked a National Letter of Intent. The early period will continue through Dec. 21. Teams can next sign players to National Letters of Intent on Feb. 6.

A two-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals…was named second team all-area by the Tacoma News Tribune as a junior and senior…played three seasons of varsity football and concluded his career with 172 receptions for 2,473 yards and 24 touchdowns…averaged 14.4 yards per reception and 82.4 yards per game during his career…caught 82 passes for 958 yards and 11 TDs as a senior…as a junior, he had 66 receptions for 1,080 yards and also scored 11 touchdowns…played on defense where he tallied 60 career tackles with nine for loss…picked off three passes and was credited with a sack as a junior.

II championship game…rushed for over 100 yards in 11 games…averaged 10.0 yards per carry during the season…scored at least one touchdown in every game and had two or more in 10 contests…found the end zone four times against Quartz Hill HS and had three rushing touchdowns against Hawkins HS, Temescal Canyon HS and Tesoro HS…had a season high 275 yards on 25 carries against Tesoro…had 225 yards on 30 attempts against Santiago HS…caught three passes for 48 yards and a touchdown during the year…as a junior, he had 1,554 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns…averaged 155.4 yards per game and 11.7 yards per carry…scored a touchdown in all 10 games, including three against Canyon Springs HS and Poly HS…went for over 200 yards against Hart HS (242) and St. Francis HS (216)…caught eight passes for 37 yards and a pair of touchdowns during the year.

A versatile athlete who played tight end, defensive end and punted for Rocklin HS…played three full seasons of varsity football and also joined the team for the playoffs as a freshman…had his senior season limited to just two games due to an injury…caught six passes for 75 yards against Granite Bay in his one game on offense…as a junior, he had 24 receptions for 337 yards and a touchdown…also added 11 tackles, including a sack, and averaged 40.8 yards per punt…caught five passes for 78 yards against Clovis West HS for his season high…had at least one reception in 10 games…scored his touchdown against Grant HS…on defense, he had five tackles, including a sack, against Central Catholic HS…longest punt was 56 yards against Whitney HS…had a punt of at least 50 yards in four games…was also 2-for-2 on PAT attempts…recorded 24 receptions for 240 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore…set season highs in his first game with five receptions for 59 yards and a TD against Grant HS…also had touchdowns against Folsom HS and Granite Bay HS…made 11-of-13 extra points.
Earlier this week, Sacramento State announced the hiring of Troy Taylor as the 11th head coach in program history. Taylor comes to the Hornets after serving the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Utah.
