HARRIEL ADDS STATS PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA TO HIS GROWING LIST OF HONORS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State safety Mister Harriel was named to STATS FCS Preseason All-America team. The senior was placed on the third team and was one of 12 defensive backs recognized in the country.

Earlier this summer, Harriel was a preseason All-American by Street & Smith's and also was named to the Big Sky Conference all-preseason team.

As a junior, the Sacramento native led the team with a career high 87 tackles which included five tackles for loss and a pair of safeties. Harriel added three interceptions and a pair of pass breakups while patrolling the middle of the field. The Antelope HS graduate was one of the more consistent players on the team in 2017, recording at least three tackles in al 11 games. He had double-digit stops in three games, including 11 in the victory over UC Davis in the Causeway Classic.

Harriel began his collegiate career as a running back with the Hornets in 2015 as a true freshman. He appeared in four of the final five games of the year and finished with 55 rushing yards. The following year, he moved to safety where he recorded 10 total tackles. His performance last season coincided with Sacramento State's breakthrough. The team finished the year with a 7-4 overall record and was 6-2 in Big Sky games. The Hornet defense led the FCS in sacks per game and combined to create nine turnovers.

Sacramento State first full team practice will take place on Monday, Aug. 6, from 9-11 a.m. The team will start its season against St Francis (Ill.) on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Hornet Stadium.
