SORENSEN NAMED TO ASSOCIATED PRESS FCS ALL-AMERICA TEAM

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State defensive end Ben Sorensen was named to the Associated Press FCS All-America third team, it was announced today. Sorensen is the eighth Hornet player to earn AP honors in the school's Div. I era and the team's first defensive lineman since 2011.

Sorensen started the final 10 games of the season for Sacramento State and led the Big Sky Conference with 10 sacks (1.00 per game). That total also placed him 10th in the FCS during the regular season. The senior spearheaded a Hornet defense which set the school Div. I-era record with 43 sacks and finished the season tied for second in the FCS sacks and ranked third in third-down defense. Along with his sacks, Sorensen concluded the season with 38 tackles, including 12.5 for loss. He also had seven pass breakups, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. Those numbers helped him earn first team all-Big Sky Conference in a vote of the league's coaches.

The Clovis, Calif., native concluded his career ranked eighth in school history with 17.5 sacks and is sixth with 32.5 tackles-for-loss. All but three of his sacks came in the final two years of his career.

The Associated Press is the first of the major national organizations to release its 2017 All-America team. The remaining teams will be published in the coming weeks.
