MEDEIROS NAMED FINALIST FOR THE FRED MITCHELL AWARD

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State junior Devon Medeiros has been named one of 13 finalists for the Fred Mitchell Award, it was announced today. The award goes to the top kicker in FCS, NCAA Div. II and NCAA Div. III. The winner of the Fred Mitchell Award will be announced on Dec. 11.

Medeiros tied Sacramento State single-season record with 14 made field goals during the season and was named second team all-Big Sky following the year. He finished the year making 14-of-17 field goal attempts and was 52-of-53 on extra points. His field goal percentage of .824 ranks third all-time at Sacramento State and his PAT percentage of .981 is fourth.

The junior made his last five attempts of the year and led the Hornets in scoring with 94 points which places his sixth in school single-season history. He made a 52-yard field goal at Idaho in his first attempt of the season which is tied for the second-longest all-time by a Hornet. The Hilmar, Calif., native made at least one field goal in nine of the team's 11 games. He also kicked off 75 times where he had an FCS-leading 43 touchbacks and averaged 64.2 yards per kick.

Sacramento State finished 2017 with a 7-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in Big Sky Conference games. The team recorded seven wins over Div. I opponents for the first time in program history and the six Big Sky victories were the most since joining the league in 1996.
