  • FOOTBALL CLASS CONTINUES TO GROW, NOW UP TO EIGHT SIGNEES

    After signing five players during the first day and one on the second day of the Early Signing Period, the Sacramento State football team grew its class on Friday with the addition of Marshaun Hunter and Tao McClinton. The Hornets have now signed five defensive players and three offensive players in the period. The early signing period, which is in its first year, continues through Friday. Dec. 22.
  • SORENSEN NAMED TO ASSOCIATED PRESS FCS ALL-AMERICA TEAM

    Sacramento State defensive end Ben Sorensen was named to the Associated Press FCS All-America third team, it was announced today. Sorensen is the eighth Hornet player to earn AP honors in the school’s Div. I era and the team’s first defensive lineman since 2011.
  • MEDEIROS NAMED FINALIST FOR THE FRED MITCHELL AWARD

    Sacramento State junior Devon Medeiros has been named one of 13 finalists for the Fred Mitchell Award, it was announced today. The award goes to the top kicker in FCS, NCAA Div. II and NCAA Div. III. The winner of the Fred Mitchell Award will be announced on Dec. 11.
  • JODY SEARS AGREES TO MULTI-YEAR EXTENSION TO REMAIN HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

    Sacramento State Director of Athletics Mark Orr announced today that Jody Sears has agreed in principle to a multi-year contract extension to remain the Sacramento State head football coach. Terms of the contract will not be released until finalized.
  • RICKY RAY WINS FOURTH GREY CUP, LEADS TORONTO TO COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN

    Former Sacramento State quarterback Ricky Ray led the Toronto Argonauts to a come-from-behind victory in the 105th Grey Cup on Saturday in a snow storm. With the win, Ray became the first starting quarterback to win the Grey Cup four times in CFL history.
  • JODY SEARS NAMED BIG SKY COACH OF THE YEAR

    Sacramento State’s head football coach Jody Sears was named the Big Sky Conference Co-Coach of the Year, it was announced today. The honor is the first for a Hornet head football coach since joining the Big Sky in 1996.

    Sacramento State built a 31-point lead in the third quarter and was able to withstand a strong finish from UC Davis to hold on for a 52-47 win in the 64th annual Causeway Classic on Saturday in front of a season-high 11,828 fans at Hornet Stadium.

    Sacramento State rushed for 333, the defense created three turnovers and held Northern Colorado to 0-for-10 on third down in a 50-21 win at Hornet Stadium on Saturday night. With the victory, the Hornets are 5-4 overall and 4-2 in Big Sky Conference play. UNC fell to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in league games.

    Kevin Thomson passed for 253 yards and rushed for 121 with three touchdowns but it was not enough as No. 9 Eastern Washington downed Sacramento State, 52-31, on Saturday at Roos Field. The win improved the Eagles to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in Big Sky Conference play. The Hornets dropped to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in league games.

The contest will also feature Chick-fil-A Mascot Madness and the first 1,000 kids will receive a complimentary water bottle.

    The honors are pouring in today for Sacramento State’s Dre Terrell. The cornerback earned national FCS defensive player of the week honors from both STATS, Inc., as well as College Football Performance Awards. Terrell was also named the Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
