CARTER NAMED FCS NATIONAL AND BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — DeAndre Carter was selected as the co-FCS Offensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network and the ROOT Sports Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced today. The honors are the first for Carter this season.

In the team's 42-21 win against Southern Utah, Carter set Sacramento State single-game records with 16 receptions and 273 receiving yards. The senior also caught four touchdowns during the contest and set the school single-season record with 15 TD catches this season. Carter's 273 yards are the most by a player in all of Div. I this year (FBS and FCS).

Carter scored the game's first points with a 19-yard touchdown in the first quarter. He added a 56-yard TD on the first play of the second quarter and an 18-yarder nine minutes later. The San Jose, Calif., native scored his final touchdown early in the fourth quarter on a 40-yard completion.

His reception total broke Fred Amey's mark of 15 which came at Eastern Washington in 2004. Alex Estrada held the yardage record for the Hornets with 228 against Southern Utah on Nov. 11, 1995. Carter became just the the fourth Sacramento State player to surpass 200 receiving yards in a game and the first since Tyrone Taylor had 201 against Weber State in 1996.

Carter shared the FCS national award with Jacksonville quarterback Kade Bell who completed 20-of-24 passes for 417 yards and six touchdowns in a 56-0 win over Davidson.

Sacramento State will play its final home game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 15, against Portland State at 2 p.m.
