CORNISH NAMED NATIONAL, BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sacramento State kicker Brad Cornish was named the national and Big Sky ROOT Sports Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the first for Cornish during his career.

FOOTBALL GETS RECORD BREAKING PERFORMANCES IN 42-31 WIN
The Sacramento State football team jumped to a 20-0 lead, saw it shrink to six points in the second half, and then pulled away for a 42-31 win over Weber State on Saturday night at Hornet Stadium.

FOOTBALL WELCOMES WEBER STATE FOR HOME OPENER
After facing a first-year FCS program in its opening game and a Pac-12 foe in its second, the Sacramento State football team will finally see a familiar face when it hosts Weber State on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Hornet Stadium (6:05 p.m.). While the Wildcats are a longtime member of the Big Sky Conference, this week’s game will not count towards the league standings for either team.

Three California quarterbacks combined to pass for 326 yards and five touchdowns and the team amassed 579 yards of total offense in a 55-14 win over Sacramento State on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Coming off its largest season-opening scoring output, the Sacramento State football team will face a far more substantial test when it travels to Berkeley, Calif., to face California on Saturday, Sept. 6. The game will kick off at noon from Memorial Stadium.

Sacramento State linebacker Darnell Sankey was named the ROOT SPORTS Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the second for Sankey in as many seasons.

FOOTBALL ROLLS TO 49-13 WIN OVER INCARNATE WORD
Garrett Safron completed 17-of-25 passes for 251 yards and five touchdowns and Darnell Sankey led the team with 10 tackles and also returned an interception for a touchdown to lead Sacramento State to a 49-13 win at Incarnate Word on Saturday night at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.

FOOTBALL OPENS SEASON ON SATURDAY AT INCARNATE WORD
The Sacramento State football team will begin its 2014 season when it travels to San Antonio, Texas to face Incarnate Word on Saturday, Aug. 30. The game against the Cardinals will kick off at 4 p.m. PDT from Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.

The Sacramento State football team will host an alumni flag football tournament on Friday night at Hornet Stadium. Along with the games, the former players will attend team meetings on Saturday as well as the current Hornet scrimmage later that day.

Sacramento State tight end Chris Broadnax was named to the College Football Performance Awards watch list for 2014. Broadnax is the third Hornet to earn a preseason honor as he joins quarterback Garrett Safron and wide receiver DeAndre Carter.

LAWANSON, MONTGOMERY ADDED TO FOOTBALL COACHING STAFF
Sacramento State head football coach Jody Sears officially completed his coaching staff with the additions of Samuel Lawanson and James Montgomery, it was announced today. Lawanson will serve as the Hornets' running backs coach while Montgomery will be an offensive assistant. Jason Pollak, who was the offensive assistant in 2013, was elevated to wide receivers coach.
