SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The 2019 WAC Tournament champion Sacramento State baseball team is headed to Stanford for the program's third NCAA Regional Tournament in the last six seasons. The No. 4 seed Hornets will face the No. 1 seed Stanford Cardinal to open regional play at 1 p.m. on Friday in Stanford.
Sacramento State (39-23) will play Stanford (41-11) in the regional's opening game at 1 p.m. PT on Friday, May 31. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 as well as online at HornetSports.com/Radio. UC Santa Barbara will face Fresno State in the second game, Friday at 7 p.m.
UC Santa Barbara is the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional after finishing the regular season 45-9. The Hornets are 26-31 all-time against the Gauchos, though Sacramento State took two of three from UCSB on the road just last season.
Fresno State fills out the four-team regional as the No. 3 seed after putting together a 38-14-1 campaign. The Hornets are 20-59 all-time against Fresno State but have not faced the Bulldogs since 2017.
The Hornets enter the 2019 Stanford Regional on a six-game winning streak after making an improbable run through the WAC Tournament. The Hornets eliminated each of the other five teams in the tournament to claim their third tournament tile in the last six seasons.
Sacramento State will be making its third Div. I NCAA Regionals appearance. In 2017, the Hornets played in the Stanford regional against Stanford and BYU. Sacramento State made its first ever Div. I NCAA Regional appearance in 2014 and played in the San Luis Obispo regional, defeating and eliminating No. 18 Arizona State for its 40th win of the season.
