Leading Off

Finale Week Sacramento State opens the final week of the regular season with a midweek, non-conference matchup against the visiting Saint Mary's Gaels. The Hornets play Tuesday before hosting Grand Canyon for a three-game series to end the regular season.

California Leaders Sacramento State entered the 2019 campaign as one of just two Div. I programs in California with 30+ wins in each of the last seven seasons. The other - Cal State Fullerton - is unlikely to reach the 30-win milestone this year.

Best In The West Since the start of the 2012 season, Sacramento State's 266 total wins are the sixth most among Div. I programs in the state of California.

Around the Horn

2: Games separating the top five teams in the WAC - all five could still win the regular season title.

13: Come-from-behind wins this season for the Hornets, including eight when trailing after five.

1: Div. I program in California with 30+ wins in each season since the start of 2012.

About Last Series

Sacramento State struggled on the road last weekend, dropping two of three games in Orem, Utah, to the Utah Valley Wolverines. The series loss was just the second against a conference opponent all season for the Hornets.

Sacramento State was unable to generate much offense on Friday, falling 6-2, before a Dawsen Bacho grand slam on Saturday helped lift the team to a come-from-behind, 5-4 win. Despite the excitement of Saturday, Sunday saw the Hornets 10-runned for the first time in three seasons (188 games).

Scott Randall recorded his team-leading seventh win of the year on Saturday. Aaron Zeidman hit his first career home run on Friday. Martin Vincelli-Simard also homered over the weekend, his sixth.

Ticket Punched

Four of the six spots in the upcoming WAC Baseball Tournament have been secured as NM State, UT Rio Grande Valley, Sacramento State and Grand Canyon have all clinched a trip to Hohokam Stadium. All four teams, plus Cal Baptist, are in the running for the regular season title with two weeks left, although CBU is not eligible for the tournament due to the transition to Division I.

Watching The WAC

As the Western Athletics Conference heads into the final weekend of the regular season, everything remains up in the air. Five teams are within two games of each other at the top of the conference and all five still have a chance to win the regular season title.

Sacramento State holds the tiebreakers over Cal Baptist and UTRGV, but not against New Mexico State. In order to have a chance at the regular season title, Sacramento State needs a sweep this weekend plus help from around the conference.

Midweek Matchups

Tuesday's game against Saint Mary's is Sacramento State's 11th and final midweek matchup of the year. It is also the team's fifth midweek game at home, where the Hornets are a perfect 4-0 so far this season. Their midweek home record includes wins against Cal, UC Davis, San Jose State, and Nevada.
