Leading Off

Season-Long Road Trip Sacramento State continues its season-long nine-game road trip with a midweek match up Wednesday at Illinois State. The Hornets have played 14 total games on the road this season, compared to 21 at home.

Winning the Weekend With another weekend series win at Seattle U this past weekend, Sacramento State has now won all four conference series this season and have won seven of 10 weekend series overall this season.

Doubleheaders Sacramento State played its fifth doubleheader of the season this past weekend, splitting two Friday games. The Hornets have won or split all five of their doubleheaders this season.

Around the Horn

9: Game road trip for the Hornets, the team's longest stretch away from the John all the season.

7: Categories in which Sacramento State leads the WAC, including ERA, Shutouts, and WHIP.

16: Strikeout-to-Walk ratio for pitcher Travis Adams, the best mark in all NCAA Div. I baseball.

About Last Series

Sacramento State won its fourth straight conference series with a series win this weekend at Seattle U. After dropping the first of two Friday games, the Hornets responded with a convincing 9-3 win in game two before taking the series in Saturday's finale, 6-2.

Matt Smith and Martin Vincelli-Simard each hit .417 in the series at Seattle U, though it was Smith who did most of the damage, slugging two home runs, scoring four runs, and knocking in three.

In Saturday's finale, Parker Brahms was excellent for the Hornets, throwing eight innings of two-run ball while striking out 10. He threw a season-high 122 pitches and picked up his third in of the season.

Midweek Madness

Wednesday night's game at Illinois State is Sacramento State's seventh midweek game of the season but just it's second on a Wednesday.

The Hornets are 3-3 in midweek games this season with all three of their midweek losses coming on the road. All three of Sacramento State's midweek wins have come on a Tuesday.

An Unfamiliar Opponent

Wednesday's game will be the first between these two programs in the Div. I era of Hornets baseball. It is the second time this season the Hornets will have faced an opponent for the first time (also Cal Baptist).

But A Familiar Face

The Redbirds might be unfamiliar, but their head coach is not. Illinois State skipper Steve Holm spent four seasons with Sacramento State from 2013 through 2016 under Reggie Christiansen. After serving as Assistant Coach in his first year with the program, Holm spent three seasons as Associate Head Coach.

Keeping Up With The Conference

The Hornets are one of three teams to sit at 9-3 in the WAC through the first four weekends of league play. They are one of just two teams to have won all four of their first conference series (also NM State).
