HEAD COACH REGGIE CHRISTIANSEN, HORNETS BASEBALL NAMED “BEST AT SAC STATE”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Baseball head coach Reggie Christiansen and the Sacramento State baseball team were both named the "Best at Sac State" according to The State Hornet, Sacramento State's student-run online newspaper.

Christiansen was voted "Sac State's Best Coach" by Sacramento State students. The voting takes place through the State Hornet, which runs an annual series highlighting the best of Sacramento State. The awards range from athletics to academics and transportation to housing, and more.

The paper's series began three years ago and the award is the first for Christiansen, who is on pace for his eighth consecutive 30-win season.

"We have very good coaches in our department and it's certainly humbling to be awarded (best coach). It goes to show you that winning matters, but so does making sure our guys do what's right in the classroom and off the field," Christiansen told the paper.

Christiansen's award was not the only one. The Sacramento State baseball team was also voted "Best Men's Team" on campus.

The Hornets are currently 23-11 overall and stand atop the Western Athletic Conference with a 9-3 league record. They have won 30 or more games and reached the postseason in seven consecutive seasons and are on pace for an eighth.

"It certainly feels good for our players to be recognized that way," Christiansen told the State Hornet. "It feels good to know that (the community is) recognizing the performances that they have done on the field. They (our players) are going to be grateful and humbled by it as well."
