SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State Hornets open a five-game week with a home contest Tuesday against Menlo College at 5 pm. The Hornets will also play at Nevada on Wednesday afternoon before hosting CSU Bakersfield in a three-game conference series.

Leading Off

Going the Distance Sacramento State right-hander Scott Randall threw his first career complete game shutout on Sunday as Sacramento State defeated Cal Baptist, 1-0, to take the series. Randall allowed just two hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out five.    

Runs, Runs, and More Runs Sacramento State scored a season-high 21 runs Friday night, beating Cal Baptist, 21-10. The 21 runs scored tied Sacramento State's most ever in a WAC game and are tied for the fifth most scored in any game in Hornets Division I history.  

Home, Sweet Home The Hornets return to John Smith Field for a Tuesday night matchup against Menlo College. In 18 games at the John this season, Sacramento State is an impressive 15-3.

About Last Series

Sacramento State won its second conference series of the season last weekend, taking two of three on the road at the Cal Baptist Lancers. 

Friday's night's game was a wild one as the Hornets matched a WAC program record with 21 runs scored in a 21-10 win. After dropping Saturday's game, 6-5, the Hornets rallied back behind a brilliant pitching performance from Scott Randall to take the finale, 1-0, on Sunday. 

Randall threw his first career complete game shutout Sunday while Dawsen Bacho set a career-high with five RBIs on Friday. Ryan Walstad hit his first career home run Friday night, a two-run shot in the ninth inning. Matt Smith hit a team-high .467 in the series.

The Month That Was: March

Sacramento State wrapped the month of March with an incredible pitching performance from Scott Randall in a 1-0 win at Cal Baptist. For the month, the Hornets finished 15-5, including 12-1 at home.

The Hornets offense hit .248 for the month and averaged nearly six runs on eight hits per game. Dawsen Bacho paced the team with a .338 average and .466 OBP in March. 

On the mound, Sacramento State pitched to a 2.54 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .207 batting average. They collected five shutouts and struck out 187 batters compared to just 43 walks. 

Keeping Up With The Conference

The Hornets are one of four teams to sit at 4-2 in the WAC through the first two weekends of league play and one of just two teams to win each of their first two conference series (NM State). 

Midweek Madness

Tuesday's game vs. Menlo College is Sacramento State's fifth midweek game of the season and the first of two this week (also, Wednesday, April 3 at Nevada). 

The Hornets are 3-1 in midweek games this season, including 3-0 at home. They have defeated UC Davis, San Jose State, and Cal, all on Tuesdays.
