Story updated Saturday, March 17:

Leading 5-3 after five innings of play, Sacramento State and Santa Barbara resumed their suspended game from Friday Saturday at noon. Despite plying just half a game, the Hornets offense came alive, scoring seven more runs en route to a 12-3 win over the Gauchos.

The first two runs Saturday came off the bat of James Outman, whose seventh inning, two-run home run was a monster shot to straight away center field. The home run was the fourth of his season and his third in his last five games.

Sacramento State continued to pile on the the eighth inning, sending 10 men in the plate in what was a five-run inning. Vinny Esposito drove in the first run of the inning with a strong base hit to left, scoring Bronson Grubbs from second. With two on and two out in the inning, Steven Moretto dropped a perfect bloop single over the heads of the first and second basemen down the line in right. The hit scored both Ian Dawkins and Esposito as Moretto advanced to second on the throw.

The big hit of the inning came from Andrew McWilliam, who blasted a two-run shot to left-center, his first home run of the season, making it a 12-3 Hornets lead.

The game was the conclusion to yesterday's game, which went just five innings before being suspended due to rain. A recap of the game's first five innings can be found below.

In total, Sacramento State hit four home runs in the win while scoring a season-high 12 runs on a season-high 15 hits.

Saturday's regularly scheduled game will begin as previously scheduled at 2:00 pm PT.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- With the Hornets leading 5-3 Friday afternoon on the road at Santa Barbara, the skies opened up and the rain came down, causing the game to be suspended. The two teams will pick up in the top of the sixth inning tomorrow at noon before playing their regularly scheduled game.

Sacramento State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead Friday as Ian Dawkins hit a leadoff home run, his first of the season. It was the fifth straight time the Hornets scored first in a game.

Santa Barbara was quick to counter, however, using a home run and a sacrifice fly in the second inning to go up 2-1 over Sacramento State. The Gauchos added another in the fourth, making it a 3-1 game.

The fifth inning was the big inning for Sacramento State. With two outs and Bronson Grubbs on second, Vinny Esposito was hit by a pitch before James Outman singled. With two outs and the bases loaded, Steven Moretto launched his third home run of the season into left field for his first career grand slam. The blast made it a 5-3 Hornets lead.

After raining lightly for most of the game's first five innings, the rains really started to come down in the sixth. With Keith Torres at the plate, the umpires and coaches agreed to suspend today's action in favor of resuming tomorrow.

The Hornets and Gauchos will complete today's game, starting in the top of the sixth inning, tomorrow at noon. They will start their regularly scheduled game a half hour after the conclusion of the suspended game.
