FORMER HORNET HOSKINS NAMED TO PAIR OF ALL-STAR GAMES

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Former Sacramento State All-American Rhys Hoskins earned a couple of honors this week as he was selected to compete in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game as well as the Triple-A All-Star Game.

The Futures Game will take place on July 9 at Marlins Park in Miami and will pit the top minor league prospects against each other. The format will have a team of US players coached by former Florida Marlin catcher Charles Johnson against a team of international players which will be led by Edgar Renteria. The game will be televised by MLB Network.

Hoskins will be a part of the International League team in the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 12 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Wash. That game will feature the best players in the International League facing the the top talent from the Pacific Coast League. The game will also be shown on MLB Network beginning at 6 p.m.

Hoskins currently leads the International League with 62 RBI and a .601 slugging percentage and is tied for the league lead with 18 home runs. He is also second in runs (56) and on-base percentage (.401), fifth in hits (83) and sixth in batting average (.304). The honor is the latest for the first baseman who was also selected to an all-star game in Single-A (South Atlantic League) and Double-A (Eastern League). He entered the season ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the Philadelphia Phillies system by Baseball America.

At Sacramento State, Hoskins was the WAC Player of the Year and a Louisville Slugger All-American as a junior. That season, he led the league with nine home runs and a .5634 slugging percentage while ranking second in RBI (45) and doubles (16). The Sacramento native was selected in the fifth round by the Phillies following the season.
