SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A total of 10 former Hornets are active in professional baseball as the minor league seasons began on Thursday.
Two Hornets begin the season at the AA level in first baseman Rhys Hoskins and catcher Derrick Chung. Hoskins, who was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth round in 2014, recently was selected to start for the Phillies Future's team against the big league club and hit a home run in the exhibition.
Starting the season at the Class-A level are outfielders Justin Higley and Nathan Lukes, shortstop Scotty Burcham, and pitchers Alex Palsha, Sutter McLoughlin, and Brennan Leitao. Former Hornet pitcher Mitch Lively is at the AAA level in the Mexican League and pitcher Tanner Mendonca begins the year in Rookie ball recovering from injury.
