BASEBALL’S DEL GRANDE NAMED WAC HITTER OF THE WEEK
DENVER – After leading Sacramento State to a 4-0 record over the past week senior centerfielder David Del Grande has been named WAC Hitter of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
A senior from Eureka, Calif., Del Grande hit .636 (7-for-11) on the week with six runs, three RBIs, two stolen bases, five walks and a home run to lead the Hornets to a perfect 4-0 record. He made just four outs in 18 at-bats during the week and registered a .778 on-base percentage and .909 slugging percentage.
In the Hornets 3-game sweep of Northern Colorado Del Grande hit .750 (6-for-8) with five walks and a hit-by-pitch for an .857 on-base percentage. He was 3-for-4 with a home run on Friday, was 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs and 2 walks on Saturday, and went 2-for-2 with 2 runs and 2 walks on Sunday, reaching base in all four plate appearances.
Del Grande opened his week hitting 1-for-3 against Pacific while stealing two bases and scoring two runs. For the season Del Grande leads the team with a .338 batting average and a .435 on-base percentage with 9 RBIs and 14 runs scored. The Hornets are 5-2 with Del Grande hitting second in the order while he has started every game for the team in center field and has a 1.000 fielding percentage with three outfield assists.
