SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State baseball team, which clinched a share of its first Western Athletic Conference regular season title, will be the No. 2 seed in the WAC Tournament, which starts on Wednesday at Hohokam Park in Mesa, Ariz.
Sacramento State (29-26, 11-7 WAC) lost its regular season finale to UNLV on Sunday, 8-7, in 11 innings but that game had no impact on the WAC Tournament.
In San Jose, Calif., New Mexico State defeated San Jose State, 15-1, to improve to 11-7 in conference and create a three-way tie at the top of the league.
The Hornets, New Mexico State and Nevada all tied for first with identical 11-7 league records. But due to their records against each other, NMSU earned the No. 1 seed, Sacramento State was slotted at No. 2 and Nevada dropped to No. 3.
Hawai’i is the No. 4 seed with Fresno State at No. 5 and Louisiana Tech the No. 6 seed. Last-place San Jose State does not qualify.
With their top seeds, the Aggies and Hornets earn first round byes. Sacramento State will play the better seed of the two winners in the first round while New Mexico State will meet the lower seed. The Hornets' are scheduled to play at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

On Sunday against UNLV, the Hornets celebrated the accomplishments of seniors Derrick Chung, Trevor Paine, Brent Hottman, Hunter Adrian and R.J. Davis. The Hornets scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and force extra innings, but UNLV broke through with two in the top of the 11th and Sacramento State could only muster one run in the bottom half of the inning.
Paine went 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBIs while eight other Hornets had one hit. Davis (1-1) took the loss after allowing both runs in the 11th while UNLV reliever Buddy Borden earned the win and Joe Robinson secured the save.
