Derrick Chung went 2-for-4 but the Hornets lost at CSUB on Sunday.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield starter Taylor Aikenhead threw a complete game and the Sacramento State baseball team lost, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of a three-game series at Hardt Field.

The Hornets (14-15) took the opening game of the set but lost the last two. On Sunday they scored two runs on seven hits with two errors while the Roadrunners (11-15) tallied five runs on eight hits and three errors.

The game was tied, 2-2, entering the bottom of the sixth inning but CSU Bakersfield pushed a run across after an error to take the lead. The Roadrunners scored two more in the eighth to put the game away.

Senior Derrick Chung and freshman Rhys Hoskins each had two hits to pace the Hornets while CSU Bakersfield catcher Cael Brockmeyer went 2-for-2 with a game-high three RBIs.

Sacramento State starting pitcher Ty Nichols was strong, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings. Reliever Hunter Greenwood (3-4) took the loss despite giving up just one unearned run and one hit in two innings.

The Hornets open up Western Athletic Conference play next weekend at Louisiana Tech.
