SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Senior Derrick Chung went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and the Sacramento State baseball team defeated Pacific, 6-3, on Tuesday afternoon at John Smith Field for its third straight win.

The win also gave the Hornets a season split with Pacific after the Tigers won, 13-10, on Feb. 28 in Stockton, Calif.

The Hornets (10-11) scored six runs on 12 hits with one error while the Tigers (4-16) tallied three runs on 13 hits and one error. In its three game winning streak, Sacramento State has allowed 28 hits but just five runs.

On Friday against the Tigers, Sacramento State used one run in the fifth to take the lead and two more in the sixth to put the game away.

Pacific tied it up, 3-3, with two runs in the top of fifth but with one out in the bottom of the inning freshman Rhys Hoskins smacked a double to right center to push sophomore Will Soto to third. That set the plate for Chung, who hit an RBI single to right to score Soto.

In the sixth inning, after freshman Scotty Burcham drew a walk, freshman Kyle Moses singled to center and Soto was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs, Chung singled to left to drive in two runs and salt the game away for the Hornets.

Over the last three games, Chung is hitting .462 with a team-high four RBIs and two runs scored.

Freshman Daniel Kopas was effective in his first career start. The Chula Vista, Calif., native allowed just one run on five hits in four innings with one strike out. Senior reliever Hunter Adrian (1-0) gave up two runs in the fifth but earned the win after Chung's RBI in the bottom half of the inning put the Hornets up for good. Sacramento State relievers Garrett KraemerTyler Hoelzen and Brandon Creel combined to hold the Tigers scoreless over the final four innings. Creel gave up just one hit in the ninth and earned his first save of the season.

Pacific starter Travis Lumby pitched just one inning after giving up two runs on three hits in the first. Reliever Jared Wagner (0-1) allowed two runs on five hits in 3.1 innings and took the loss.

Sacramento State jumped on a bus right after the game to head to Utah. The Hornets will play a single game against the Utes tomorrow before playing a three-game series at Utah Valley. The Wolverines took 2-of-3 games from the Hornets at John Smith Field last season.
