KINSEY LEADS BASEBALL PAST UC DAVIS, 7-0

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Sophomore Chris Kinsey threw his first complete game to help lead the Sacramento State baseball team to a 7-0 win over UC Davis in the second annual River City Classic at Raley Field Tuesday night.

The win stopped the Hornets'' seven-game losing streak and improved the team''s record to 14-16. The victory was also the second against UCD this season. The Aggies dropped to 19-19.

Kinsey, who had never thrown more than 7.1 innings in his collegiate career, surrendered just three hits while striking out nine without a walk. The Elk Grove, Calif., native was efficient all night as he threw just 93 pitches.

Sacramento State managed six hits off of five UC Davis pitchers but took advatnage of two Aggie errors and eight walks.

The Hornets scored the game''s first run int he second inning on a ground out by Everet Rincon which scored Mario Celillo. The team added to its lead in the fourth inning when Tim Reimer hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Rincon.

Sacramento State pushed the lead to 3-0 in the seventh when Joe Evans hit a ball off the wall in left-center to score Reimer. The rest of the damage came in the eight inning where the team scored four runs without a hit.

Bret LeVier led off the inning with a walk and with one out, Rincon also walked. Reimer loaded the bases with the third walk of the inning before Casey Fuller was hit by a pitch to score LeVier. UC Davis turned to Michael Schofield out of the bullpen but his first pitch was got past catcher Buzz Byer allowing Rincon to score. Kinsey followed with a ground out to second which plated Reimer.

The Sacramento State offense was led by Mario Celillo and Tito Barba with two hits apiece.

The Hornets return home to host UC Riverside in a three-game series starting on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Hornet Field.
