GAME ONE RECAP:
With a runner on and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Derrick Chung slapped a double to left center that scored Carter Loud all the way from first for the game-winning run as the Hornets took the opening contest of Saturday's doubleheader, 5-4.

Sacramento State starter Brandon Sandoval (4-3) pitched a complete game for the win, allowing four runs on 11 hits in seven innings with two walks and three strikeouts. The senior used two double plays to get out of jams early and keep the damage to a minimum.

After Louisiana Tech scored four runs through the first three innings, the Sacramento State offense responded with a four-run fourth to tie up the game.

Dax Turner led off with a triple to right center and eventually scored on Loud's sacrifice fly to center. After the sacrifice fly, the Hornets loaded the bases with three walks, including the last two on 3-0 counts.

After a pitching change, Blake Miller swatted a double down the left field line which cleared the bases and tied up the game.

Miller went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Hornets, who scored five runs on eight hits and a season-high 10 walks. A total of six Hornets drew at least one walk in the game.

The big fourth inning allowed Sandoval to settle in and the senior was outstanding in the final three frames, facing just two over the minimum in that stretch.

Chung delivered in the ninth as the Hornets improved to 9-4 in the first game of doubleheaders this season.

The Hornets had a chance to tie it up in the ninth, as Justin Higley moved from first to third on two wild pitches with just one out. But a strikeout and a pop out put the game away for the Bulldogs.

Loud, Will Soto, Blake MillerBrent Hottman and Andrew Ayers each recorded single hits for the Hornets. Louisiana Tech's Clint Ewing paced his team offensively, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
