BASEBALL SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER AT SEATTLE

4/2/2011

Dallas Chadwick pitched the Hornets' first complete game of the season in a 3-2 victory.

SEATTLE, Wash. -
It was going to take something special to top the Hornets' ninth-inning comeback in game one, but Dallas Chadwick's complete game two-hitter in game two did just that, as the Sacramento State baseball team swept a doubleheader with Seattle University on Saturday. The Hornets took game one, 10-7, and won game two, 3-2.

The Hornets' record improves to 8-19 on the season while the Redhawks slide to 10-10.

Due to rain in the area yesterday, the two teams played at the University of Washington's Husky Ballpark, which features a FieldTurf infield.

The teams will meet again tomorrow, this time at Seattle University's Bannerwood Field in Bellvue, Wash., for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.

Game One - W, 10-7

After a shaky start on the mound by starter Karl Maas, reliever Brandon Creel (1-0) came into the game to allow just one run on three hits in 3.2 innings with one strikeout and no walks as the Hornets rallied for a 10-7 win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against Seattle University.

Creel's strong performance in the late innings kept the Hornets in the game, setting up a four-run ninth that put Sacramento State up by three runs.

Down by one going into the final inning, Kirby Young led it off with a walk on a 3-2 count. Derrick Chung was hit by a pitch on a full count in the next at-bat to put two on with no outs. Hunter Adrian's fielder's choice moved Chung to second but Young was forced out at third. The Hornets loaded the bases in the next at-bat, all without getting a hit, when Andrew Ayers took a five-pitch walk.

With the bases loaded, Justin Higley - who hit his second home run of the season earlier in the game - slapped a double to left center to bring home both Adrian and Chung. In the very next at-bat, the Hornets took the lead on David Del Grande's two-RBI single to left.

Creel shut down the Redhawks with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth as the Hornets improved to 4-1 in the opening game of a doubleheader.
