NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Sacramento State baseball team lost 10-5 to Cal State Northridge on Saturday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at Matador Field.
The Hornets slide to 5-16 on the year while the Matadors improve to 13-8 after winning the rubber match of the series.
Sacramento State starter Sam Kuykendall (0-4) took the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in five innings with three strikeouts and two walks. Cal State Northridge starter Justen Gorski (3-1) earned the win. Gorski allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings with four strikeouts and one walk.
Hunter Adrian, Blake Miller and Kirby Young each went 2-for-4 with at least one RBI for the Hornets. Adrian had a team-high two RBIs and hit his sixth and seventh doubles of the year. Miller hit his team-best second home run of the season.
Cal State Northridge had three players with two or more RBIs with designated hitter Josh Goossen-Brown's three RBIs leading the way.
The Hornets started hot as usual, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. But the Matadors matched both runs in the bottom of the first. And while Sacramento State did not score again until two crossed the plate in the top of the eighth inning, CSUN scored eight runs in that stretch, inclunding three in the fourth inning and four in the sixth.
Sacramento State will not have a weekday game this week. The Hornets and Utah Valley meet up at John Smith Field for a three-game set starting Friday afternoon.
