TIGERS HIT WALK-OFF SINGLE AND BASEBALL FALLS, 3-2, AT PACIFIC 3/2/2011 Andrew Ayers was on base twice with a pair of hits vs. Pacific but the Hornets lost, 3-2. STOCKTON, Calif. - Pacific's Matt Carvutto hit a bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning to hand the Sacramento State baseball team a 3-2 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Klein Family Field. The Hornets fall to 3-7 on the season while the Tigers improve to 2-6. Sacramento State jumped out to a 2-0 lead with runs in the third and fourth innings. In the top of the third, Hunter Adrian led off with a triple to right center. An Eli Davis ground out in the next at-bat drove in Adrian from third. To lead of the fourth, David Del Grande was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a balk. After Del Grande advanced on Trevor Paine's line out to center field, he scored from third when Kirby Young singled through the right side. After the two early runs the Hornets' bats fell silent and the Tigers crept back into the game. Pacific tied up the game in the fifth inning on Brian Martin's single. With one out and runners at second and third, Martin singled to left field to drive in both Dustin Torchio and Brett Christopher. The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth inning when Carvutto ended it with his bases loaded single to left. Adrian and Hunter Ayers both went 2-for-4 for Sacramento State while Pacific had three players record multi-hit games. As a team, the Hornets belted out seven hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. The Tigers posted nine hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts. Sacramento State reliever Brandon Creel racked up seven of the Hornets' 10 strikeouts. The Hornets will be in action this weekend at UC Santa Barbara for a three-game set starting on Friday.
