SAN FRANCISCO --- Josh Reidt and Peter Dunkle combined to limit Sacramento State to four hits as the University of San Francisco claimed a 3-2 victory over the Hornets Saturday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.The win improved the Dons to 5-10 overall. Sacramento State dropped to 7-6.
The Hornets scored the game''s first run when Mario Celillo singled to center field to drive in Everet Rincon. USF tied the game in the bottom of the third on a single by Cy Donald which plated Royce Fukuroku.
The Dons took the lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Nick Cirbo and added a third run behind a single by Luke Gradishar.
The final run of the contest came in the sixth inning when Tim Reimer scored from third base on one of USfF''s five errors in the game.
The two teams combined for just 11 his as Fukuroku (2-for-4) was the only player to record more than one hit for either team.
Sacramento State had its chances in the game but stranded 14 runners on base.
The effort spoiled a strong outing by Marshall Plouffe. The sophomore threw all eight innings for the team and struck out eight.
The two teams will conclude the three-game series at Hornet Field on Sunday. The game will start at 1 p.m.
