FULLER'S HOMER LIFTS BASEBALL PAST RAINBOWS

2/9/2002

HONOLULU — Senior Casey Fuller hit a two-run home run in the top of 13th inning and Sacramento State added one more run in the inning as the Hornets defeated Hawai'i, 5-2, Saturday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

The win improved the Hornets to 1-1. The Rainbows dropped to 2-4.

Fuller’s home run was the first of his collegiate career. The left-hander had been a pitcher at Sacramento City College, Ole Miss and Sacramento State before he was shifted to an outfielder for the 2002 season.

The Hornets scored the game’s first two runs but allowed Hawaii to plate one run in the bottom of the first.

Neither team was able to score until the seventh inning when UH tied the game. The score remained, 2-2, until Fuller's home run.

Sacramento State received a pair of strong pitching efforts in the game. Sophomore Marshall Plouffe started the game and allowed just three hits and one earned run in six innings. Senior Jeff Groeger tossed the final seven innings surrendering three hits and one earned run while striking out seven to earn the win.

William Quaglieri, who entered the game in the sixth inning, was dealt his first loss of the year.

Sophomore Chris Kinsey, who hit two home runs on Friday, remained hot with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. Senior Mario Celillo and Fuller also added a pair of hits for the Hornets.

The Rainbows were led by Scotter Martines and Lane Nogawa with two hits apiece.

The three-game series will conclude on Sunday. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:05 p.m. PST.
