BASEBALL ELIMINATED FROM WAC TOURNAMENT FOLLOWING LOSS TO NEVADA

RUSTON, La. - The Sacramento State baseball team was eliminated from the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in fourth place following a 15-5 loss to Nevada in seven innings on Saturday, May 24 at J.C. Love Field.

With the loss the Hornets finish the season at 24-35, while the Wolf Pack improved to 33-25, and will play Hawai'i on Saturday night, with the winner earning the right to play in the championship game against Fresno State.

Nevada took control of the game early, scoring four runs in the first and a run in the second to take a 5-0 lead. The Hornets made it 5-1 in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by senior Wes Oberlin, scoring senior David Flores on the play. The Wolf Pack then scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score 8-1 before the Hornets scored again in the top of the fifth on a solo home run off the bat of junior Blake Crosby to pull back to within 8-2.

The Wolf Pack then scored four runs in the fifth to take a 12-2 lead, before Sacramento State got a run back in the top of the sixth on a RBI sacrifice fly by sophomore Tim Wheeler, making the score 12-3. Following three runs by the Wolf Pack in the bottom of the sixth, Crosby singled to open the top of the seventh, bringing up pinch hitter senior Jeff Hannah. Hannah made his last at bat in the Green and Gold memorable, uncorking a two run homer to deep center field to make the score 15-5.

Mario Rivera (3-1) picked up the win for the Wolf Pack, allowing five runs on 10 hits in six innings of work. Senior Alvaro Orozco (4-3) picked up the loss, allowing eight runs, five earned, in 3.2 innings of work.

Crosby and Oberlin led the Hornets with two hits apiece, while Jason Sadoian led the Nevada charge, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI.
