BASEBALL'S FIVE GAME WIN STREAK SNAPPED BY RIVAL UC DAVIS 10-5

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State baseball team had its five-game winning streak snapped by the UC Davis Aggies, who defeated the Hornets 10-5 on Tuesday, April 1 at Hornet Field.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 10-15 overall, while the Aggies improve to 18-8.
UC Davis opened the scoring in the top of the second on a RBI single by Kyle Mihaylo, and increased the lead to 2-0 in the third inning when Ty Kelly scored on a wild pitch. The Hornets fought back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score at 2-2, as junior Hunter Martinez executed a safety squeeze, scoring freshman Derrick Chung, and senior Ryan Blair provided a RBI groundout, scoring freshman Brent Hottman.
In the bottom of the fifth the Hornets would take their first lead, as following a single by Blair, senior David Flores connected on his second home run of the season to deep left field, giving Sacramento State a 4-2 advantage.
The Aggies, however, had the answer in the top half of the sixth, as Scott Heylman connected on a RBI single and Kelly followed suit, tieing the game at 4-4. UC Davis then scored four runs in the top of the eighth and two runs in the top of the ninth, scoring eight of the games final nine runs to pick up the victory. The lone Hornet run over the span came in the eighth, as senior Brian Boyd scored on a RBI single by Hottman, which at the time pulled the Hornets to within three at 8-5.
Andy Suiter (1-0) threw 1.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out a batter to pick up the win for the Aggies. Closer Justin Fitzgerald came in during the eighth inning with the tying run at the plate, picking up his fifth save of the season. Senior Ryan Magee (0-1) picked up the loss for the Hornets, as he faced five batters in the eighth and did not record an out, while allowing four earned runs.
Offensively, Flores led the Hornets with a 3-for-5 day at the dish, with two RBI, which came on the home run. Flores upped his average to a team leading .389, and increased his school record total to 46.Hottman finished the day 2-for-4, after starting his career 1-for-16 at the plate, and posted his first career RBI. Ryan Royster went 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored in the win for the Aggies, while Ty Kelly was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
The Hornets travel to Ruston, Louisiana to take on Louisiana Tech in a four game Western Athletic Conference series starting Thursday, April 3, and finishing up with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 5, following a single game on April 4. Game time for the Saturday doubleheader has been changed to 11 a.m. Central time, with the games on Friday and Saturday both starting at 6 p.m. Central time.
