BASEBALL STRUGGLES OFFENSIVELY IN OPENING LOSS TO UTAH VALLEY STATE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Utah Valley State''s Kam Mickolio pitched a complete game shutout in an 8-0 win over Sacramento State on Friday afternoon at Hornet Field.

The 6-foot-9 right hander held the Hornets, now 9-14 on the season, to five hits while recording four strikeouts.

Mickilio (2-4) faced just four batters over the minimum, while Sacramento State left hander Matt Campbell (2-4) took the loss after surrendering seven runs on 13 hits in six innings on the mound.

The Wolverines (5-11) tallied 17 hits on the day, led by designated hitter Adam Openshaw, who went 5-for-5 on the afternoon and scored one run.

Utah Valley State''s leadoff hitter and shortstop, Eli Slesk, went 2-for-6 with two doubles, two runs and one RBI.

Also recording multiple hits for Utah Valley State were third baseman Kade Boyer, who went 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, as well as first baseman Dan Bulow, who finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run.

Senior Pat Keiper and sophomore David Flores each recorded doubles for the Hornets, while Budddy Morales, Kyle Atrat and Everet Rincon also had hits.
