BASEBALL FALLS DESPITE STROMBACH'S STRONG PERFORMANCE AT THE PLATE

San Francisco, Calif. – San Francisco produced 15 hits in its 9-3 win over Sacramento State on Tuesday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

The Dons put up four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take 5-3 lead in the game that they would never relinquish.

San Francisco (27-12) was led at the plate by Tavo Hall and Scott Cousins. Hall went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run. Cousins finished 2-fo-4 with two RBIs and one run as well.

In the fifth inning, the Dons mounted their lead when Hall doubled down the left field line to score Andrew Smith and Lucas DeLong.

Royce Fukuroko then singled to center field scoring Jonnie Knoble. Knoble finished the day 3-for-5. Hall then added the fourth run when he scored on an error.

The Hornets (17-21-1) were led by Jim Strombach , who went 2-for-4 from the plate. The Aiea, Hawaii, native now leads the team with a .319 batting average and 15 multiple-hit games.

Freshman David Flores helped Sacramento State score its first run in the second inning when his ground out scored junior Brian Conradi.

The Hornets added runs in the fourth and fifth innings when senior Brett Flowers scored on an error and junior Everet Rincon scored on a wild pitch.

San Francisco used five pitchers in the victory with T.J. Franco (4-3) picking up the win after pitching three innings and giving up one run on two hits.

Junior Kyle Christensen (2-1) took the loss for the Hornets after pitching four innings and giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits.

Although the team has won nine of its last 11 games, the loss to San Francisco ended the Hornets’ six-game winning streak.
