BASEBALL FALLS 4-2 TO NO. 22 LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE IN HAWAI'I TOURNEY
In its third game of the First Hawai’i Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament, Sacramento State fell to No. 22 and undefeated Louisiana-Lafayette by a score of 4-2.The Ragin Cajuns are 13-0 on the season and came from behind in fifth and sixth innings to get the win.
Senior pitcher Ethan Katz got the start for the Hornets (6-8-1), holding Louisiana Lafayette without a run for the first four innings.
Sacramento State went ahead early in the game when senior Matt Wilson singled to left field, scoring Brett Flowers, who had doubled earlier in the inning.
In the third inning, freshman Taylor Watanabe singled up the middle to reach first base, before Flowers doubled to right field to score him from third. Flowers, who is batting .304, now has five RBIS in last three games (nine this season) and is on a three-game hitting streak. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native also leads the team with six multiple hit games and three multiple RBI games.
In the fifth inning, Louisian-Lafayette put two runs on the board, both unearned. Jameson Parker reached base on an error and later scored when Justin Merendino singled. Josh Landry scored the other run for the Ragin Cajuns in the inning to tie the game at 2-2.
Louisiana-Lafayette went ahead by a run in the sixth inning and added another in the seventh. Josh McCarthy and Dallas Morris also registered RBIs in the game.
For the Hornets, Katz went 6.0 innings, giving up only one earned run. At the plate, Flowers and juniors Josh Levin and Pat Keiper all had multiple hit games.
Sacramento State is now 1-2 at the tournament and will play South Florida tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
