Sacramento State is now 21-21 on the year while Hawai''i-Hilo improved to 8-33.

In game one, freshman Justin Deme allowed only one earned run in six innings to lead the Hornets to a 4-2 win in a seven-inning contest.

The Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when junior Bret LeVier scored from second base on a wild pitch by Vulcan starter Scott Siegfried. With two outs, LeVier and junior Ryan Browne hit back-to-back singles to left field. With junior Kyle Aure at-bat, Siegfried''s pitch went through the legs of catcher Chris Savio. Savio did not recognized where the ball was, which allowed LeVier to score from second.

Sacramento State added another run in the third when junior Brett Flowers drove in senior Jack Arroyo from third with a sacrifice fly. With one out, Arroyo singled to center and then advanced to second when junior Craig Johnson was hit by a pitch. After a wild pitch by Siegfried advanced both runners, Flowers hit a fly to center which allowed Arroyo to score.

The Hornets made it 4-0 in the fourth after RBI singles by Browne and Aure. Junior Pedro Santiago walked to lead off the inning and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt to the mound by LeVier. In the next at-bat, Browne pulled a ball through the left side to score Santiago from second. After Aure advanced to second on a balk by Siegfried, Aure lined a ball passed Daniel Rhodes at third to score Browne.

Hawai''i-Hilo cut the deficit to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth when Johnny Dudoit scored on a fielding errory by Aure at the plate. With a runners on first and second and one out, Rhodes hit a single to left field. Browne fielded the ball cleanly and threw a perfect strike to Aure at the plate. Before Aure could tag out Dudoit at the plate, the ball popped out of his glove. With runners still on second and third and one out, freshman Justin Deme recorded two-consecutive outs to end the inning.

The Vulcans added another run in the bottom of the fifth after an RBI single to right by Kaliko Oligo.

Hawai''i-Hilo loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but senior Renecke Stelzriede got Sean Tamura to pop out to LeVier at short to end the game.

Deme (3-2) earned the win after allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out three in 6.0 innings of work. Stelzriede recorded his fourth save of the season by allowing only two hits in one inning of relief.

In the game two, Clay Dougherty hurled a two-hit shutout to lead Hawai''i-Hilo to a 5-0 win in seven innings.

The Vulcans took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Dudoit drove in a run with a single to right field and Oligo scored from third on a wild pitch by junior Ethan Katz.

Hawai''i-Hilo made it 4-0 in the fifth after a sacrifice fly by Dudoit and an RBI double down the left-field line by Tom Henderson.

The Vulcans added another run in the sixth when Obligo drove in David Chu from second with a double down the left-field line.

Dougherty (2-5) earned the win after scattering two hits while walking one and striking out three in 7.0 innings of work.

Katz (6-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out seven in 6.0 innings.

The series will now shift to Simmons'' Field at Kialua-Kona with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 10 (2 p.m. PST) before the finale on Sunday, April 11, at 5 p.m PST.
