SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Junior Craig Johnson finished 3-for-3 from the plate but UC Santa Barbara’s Andy Graham recorded his first shutout of the season as the Gauchos defeated the Sacramento State baseball team, 11-0, Saturday afternoon at Hornet Field.

The Hornets are now 19-18 on the year while the Gauchos improved to 19-10. The loss ran Sacramento State’s losing streak to a season-high three games and marked the first shutout by an opponent this season. The Gauchos have now won eight-consecutive games.

UC Santa Barbara took an early 4-0 lead after scoring a run in the second and three runs in the third. In the second, Chris Valaika drove in Matt Wilkerson from third with an RBI single to left-center field. In the third, Taylor Vogt hit a three-run home run over the left-field wall. The Gauchos added another run in the sixth when Chris Malec led off the inning with a home run to right field.

UCSB increased its lead to 11-0 in the seventh after scoring six runs on six hits.

Graham (2-1) also registered his first complete game after scattering six hits while walking one batter and striking out five.

Rosebrock (4-4) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs on four hits while walking none and striking out three batters in 6.0 innings. The Citrus Heights, Calif., native had thrown two-consecutive complete games prior to today’s start. It also marked the most runs allowed by the right-hander since his first start of the season on Jan. 31.

Johnson was the only Hornet to record multiple hits on the afternoon while raising his batting average to .331. Junior Brett Flowers had his 11 game-hitting streak snapped after finishing 0-for-3 in the contest.

Sacramento State and UC Santa Barbara will conclude its series on Sunday, April 4, at 1 p.m. This weekend’s series will not be available on www.hornetsports.com.
