The Sacramento State improved to 17-15 on the year while the Tigers fell to 14-11. With the win in game one, the Hornets ended a season-high three-game losing streak.

In the first game, Sacramento State erased an early 9-2 deficit by scoring 14 runs in the final four innings en route to a 16-9 win.

The Hornets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when junior Craig Johnson hit a high fly ball over the left-field wall. For Johnson, a native of Porterville, Calif., it was his fourth home run of the season.

Pacific took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second after a sacrifice fly by Adam Ringer and a double steal by Brandon Gottier and Isaiah Lilly. Jordan Seiber led off the inning with a walk before Gottier followed with a single to center. After Lilly drew a walk to load the bases, Ringer drove in Seiber with a drive to center. With runners on first and third and one out, Lilly stole second while Gottier stole home during the attempted throw to second.

Sacramento State evened the score in the top of the third when Johnson hit an RBI single to left-center field. With two outs, senior Jack Arroyo doubled down the third-base line. Johnson followed with a shallow fly to left-center that Seiber could not glove on a diving attempt.

The Tigers made it 9-2 in the bottom of the third after a two-run double by Gottier, RBI singles by Lilly and Octavio Amezquita, and consecutive bases loaded RBI walks by Aaron Harper, Nicholas Sekiya and Evan Bishop.

The Hornets cut the deficit to 9-6 in the top of the sixth after a sacrifice fly to left by senior John Acha, a two-run double to right-center field by junior Bret LeVier and an RBI infield single by junior Ryan Browne. Sacramento State made it 9-7 in the seventh inning when Acha drew a bases loaded walk.

The Hornets regained the lead, 11-9, in the top of the eighth by scoring four runs on two hits. Browne led off the inning with a triple to right center. After consecutive walks by junior Matt Wilson and sophomore Jim Strombach loaded the bases, Arroyo drove in two runs with a single to center. With runners on first and second and one out, junior Brett Flowers hit a combacker to Tiger pitcher Eric Stolp. Stolp attempted to start an inning-ending double play but Amezquita dropped the ball at short, which allowed Arroyo to score from second. With runners still on first and second with one out, junior Pedro Santiago drove in Johnson with a single to center.

Sacramento State made it 16-9 in the ninth after scoring five runs on two hits.

Senior Andy Mohr (3-0) earned the win after allowing no runs on three while walking one and striking out three in 6.2 innings of relief.

Stolp (1-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs (four earned) on three hits while walking three and striking out one in one inning.

Johnson led the Hornet offense by finishing 5-for-6 with four runs, a home run and three RBI. Junior Pedro Santiago led the squad with four RBI (2-for-2). Acha''s season-high 14-game hitting streak came to an end after he went 0-for-3.

In the second game, Sacramento State scored nine runs in the first three innings as the Hornets capitalized on eight Pacific errors to complete the sweep by a score of 15-5.

The Hornets scored two runs in the first, one in the second and six in the third to open an early 9-0 lead.

The Tigers answered with three runs in the third after a sacrifice fly to center by Amezquita and a two-run fielding error by Browne in left field with runners on first and second with two outs.

Sacramento State made it 10-3 in the fourth when Arroyo drove in Strombach from second with a single up the middle. The Hornets added another run in the top of the seventh when Strombach scored from second base on a fielding error by Amezquita at short.

Pacific made it 11-4 in the bottom of the seventh after an RBI infield single by Bishop scored Lilly from third

The Hornets increased their lead to 15-4 in the ninth after a bases clearing triple down the right-field line by Johnson and an RBI single by sophomore Brian Blauser.

Pacific added another run in the bottom of the ninth after an RBI single by Seiber.

Freshman Justin Deme'' (2-1) earned the win after allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits while walking three and striking out four in 7.0 innings of work.

Mathews (1-5) was tagged with the loss after giving up eight runs (six earned) on three hits while walking four and striking out one in 2.0 innings.

Arroyo led the Hornet offense by going 3-for-5 with four runs and two RBI. Strombach also added four runs in the contest.

Sacramento State and Pacific will play the final two games of its four-game series at Hornet Field on Saturday-Sunday, Mar. 27-28. Both games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
