AS A JUNIOR (2006)
Made the jump from reliever to starter and quickly became the Hornets’ ace...season was cut short when he was sidelined with a stress fracture in his left elbow...despite making his last appearance on April 15 and starting only 10 games, he led the staff with a 5-1 record...also led the starting staff with a 3.09 ERA...pitched 64.0 innings, holding batters to a .226 average and recording 34 strikeouts...earned his first victory against San Francisco on Feb. 12, pitching 7.0 innings and holding the Dons to one unearned run on three hits, while striking out seven...pitched his first complete game, earning his third victory at UC Irvine...went the distance holding the Anteaters to two runs on six hits...during that game, after the Hornets took a 4-2 lead in the top of the ninth, retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning...pitched a complete-game shutout in a 6-0 victory over Northern Colorado on March 12 with a career-high eight strikeouts, and earned WAC Pitcher of the Week honors...the following week pitched a complete game in a 7-1 victory over Utah Valley State on March 18, allowing just one run on three hits.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2005)
Played in 20 games and made 10 appearances on the mound...also started one game in left field and one in right field...hit .231, going 3-for-13 from the plate with two RBIs, one run and one double...on the mound, pitched 11.2 innings and tallied eight strikeouts.

AS A FRESHMAN (2004)
Made 19 appearances on the mound, including four starts...pitched 32.0 innings and struck out 23...opponents batted .272 against him, second-best mark on the team...made 15 appearances in relief...struck out 10 batters looking...allowed 34 hits...earned his first win in a 12-11 victory over Northern Colorado on May 14, in that game pitched 6.2 innings giving up only four hits while striking out seven...also started two games at first base...got his first win in a 12-11 win over Northern Colorado on May 14...pitched 6.2 innings in that game, giving up four hits and three runs while striking out seven...in 12 of 19 appearances, gave up one run or less.

HIGH SCHOOL
A 2003 graduate of Chaparral HS in Temecula, Calif...played four years of baseball...was a pitcher, outfielder and first baseman for the Pumas...named first team all-South Western Valley League as a senior...helped lead the Pumas to 9-1 overall record and a Valley League title as a junior...as a senior, he finished with 10 home runs and 39  RBI’s while compiling a 6-2 record as a pitcher...his home run total set a new school record.

PERSONAL
Born Jan. 7, 1985...major is communication studies...parents are William and Sheri Joyce...had open heart surgery when he was 12-years old and went through the same procedure again in July of 2003...brother, Brian, is currently a freshman outfielder for the Hornets.
