BASEBALL DROPS DOUBLEHEADER AT NEVADA

Blake Miller went 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the first game but the Hornets lost, 10-7.

RENO, Nev. - The Sacramento State baseball team dropped a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at Nevada on Saturday at Peccole Park. The Hornets lost 10-7 in the first game and 8-3 in the second game.

Sacramento State slid to 18-35 (5-14 WAC) after the losses while Nevada improved to 19-27 (8-10 WAC) with the pair of wins.

The four-game series concludes at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

GAME ONE RECAP: Despite two runs in the top of the seventh, the Hornets could not complete the comeback and dropped game one of the doubleheader, 10-7, on Saturday at Peccole Park.

Nevada's Brock Stassi (2-2) earned the win after allowing five runs on five hits in six innings with three walks and two strikeouts. Mat Keplinger earned his first save of the season. Sacramento State's Brandon Sandoval (3-3) suffered the loss after surrendering eight runs (four earned) on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Shae Lukes gave up two runs on three hits in three innings of relief.

Blake Miller led the Hornets offensively, going 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs and one run. Will SotoHunter AdrianAndrew Ayers and Carter Loud had one hit each. Miller and Loud each hit home runs in the game. It was Loud's first of the season.

Nevada scored runs in four of its six innings at-bat, including three in the second and four in the third. The Wolf Pack had 10 runs on 12 hits in the game while the Hornets made four errors.

GAME TWO RECAP: Sacramento State starter Sam Kuykendall lost a perfect game in the sixth inning and Nevada was able to strike for eight runs in the final three innings to defeat the Hornets, 8-3, in the second game of Staurday's doubleheader.

Kuykendall went three-up, three-down in the fist, second, third, fourth and fifth innings but Nevada's Carlos Escobar Jr. led off the sixth with a single to left on a 2-1 count to break up the perfect game.

Nevada ended up scoring it's first run in the sixth as well but the Hornets still had a 3-1 lead heading into the seventh inning. That's where the Wolf Pack rallied to score three runs to take a one-run lead and never looked back.

Nevada tallied four runs on three hits and an error in the eighth to pad its lead.

Nevada starter Tom Jameson (4-6) earned the win after allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in eight innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Kuykendall (0-6) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) on five hits in 6.2 innings with no walks and two strikeouts. Brandon Creel allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits in one inning of relief.

Will Soto went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI while Carter Loud went 3-for-4 at the plate. The Hornets had three runs on seven hits.
