Hunter Adrian hit a three-run home run in the third inning and the Hornets beat Saint Mary's.
The Hornets improved to 14-28 after winning their last non-conference game of the season while the Gaels dropped to 17-18. Saint Mary's won 2-1 in the 10th inning in the first meeting between the teams on Feb. 22 at John Smith Field.
Sacramento State was down one run heading into the fifth inning. With one out, catcher Brent Hottman singled to left and after a strikeout, Derrick Chung reached on an error and both came home one batter later when Kirby Young blasted a double down the right field line.
Relievers Tanner Mendonca, Zach Morgan and Brandon Creel combined to allow just three hits and no runs with three strikeouts and one walk. Mendonca (2-4) earned the win while Creel tallied his second save of the season. It was Morgan's first career appearance with the Hornets after redshirting last season.
Saint Mary's reliever Brad Nease (0-1) took the loss after giving up two runs on two hits in 0.2 innings.
Earlier in the game, Hunter Adrian launched his second home run of the season - a three-run shot to right in the third inning - which tied up the game before Saint Mary's took a brief one-run lead on Patrick Wisdom's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Blake Miller and Adrian each went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Hornets offensively. Saint Mary's Markus Melgosa and Cole Norton each had three hits in the game.
Sacramento State returns home this weekend to host San Jose State in a four-game Western Athletic Conference series. First pitch on Friday is 2:30 p.m. A doubleheader will be played on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and the series concludes with a 1:00 p.m. start on Sunday.
