FLORES AND WHEELER NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-WAC TEAM

DENVER - Sacramento State senior third baseman David Flores and sophomore outfielder Tim Wheeler were named to the Preseason all-Western Athletic Conference team, as announced today by the conference.

Flores, a first team all-WAC selection a season ago, batted .311 last season for the Hornets with five home runs. The senior out of Union City, Calif. was second on the team a season ago in hits (66) and runs (30). He hit .313 with three home runs and 12 RBI during conference play, while posting a .973 fielding percentage at the hot corner during WAC play. Flores caught fire in the final two months of the season, batting .367 over the time span, while posting four of his five home runs.

Wheeler, a sophomore outfielder out of Sacramento's El Camino HS,  posted a stellar freshman campaign a season ago, batting .310 with six home runs and 27 RBI. Wheeler came into his own during conference play, where he as second on the team in batting average, hitting .352 against WAC pitching, while connecting on five of his home runs and 19 of his RBI during the Hornets 24 games inside of conference.

Fresno State outfielder Steve Susdorf was named the preseason position player of the year, while Fresno State pitcher Clayton Allison was tabbed as the preseason pitcher of the year.

The Hornets open up the season on Feb. 22 at home as they begin a three-game series with Loyola Marymount at Hornet Field.
