BUDDY MORALES NAMED TO 2006 WAC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State catcher Buddy Morales was voted to the 2006 Western Athletic Conference all-tournament team by the participating media.

 

Morales, who finished the season batting a team leading-leading .344, hit .600 (6-for-10) at the tournament with three runs scored, two RBIs, one home run, one double and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

 

The Hornets entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed, and were eliminated from the double-elimination tourney after falling to 21st-ranked Fresno State, 10-2, and Louisiana Tech, 14-9.

 

Morales was also named to the WAC first team, voted on by the league’s head coaches, after hitting .349 in conference play with nine multiple-hit games and four multiple-RBI games. He led the team with a .457 on-base percentage, 22 runs scored and three home runs. His 30 hits and 13 RBIs in WAC play were second only to starting third baseman David Flores, who received second-team all-conference honors.

 

Overall on the year, Morales made 51 starts behind the plate and led the team with 38 runs scored. In his third year after transferring from Fullerton JC, Morales finished second on the team with 65 hits, 20 multiple-hit games and 14 doubles. He was also hit by a pitch a team and league-leading 19 times, tying a Sacramento State single-season program record.

 

The Hornets ended their season with a 20-37 record and having made the WAC postseason tournament, while competing in its first season as an affiliate member.
