Long Beach State’s Abe Alvarez was tabbed the league’s Pitcher of the Year and Cal State Northridge’s Eric Verbryke was the Player of the Year. Mike Batesole was the Coach of the Year after guiding Northridge to the league title.

Kinsey, a sophomore from Elk Grove, Calif., finished the season with a .318 batting average and also led the team with 16 home runs, 60 RBI, 67 hits, 125 total bases and a .592 slugging percentage. His 16 home runs tied for the Big West Conference lead and also ranked as the fourth-best total in school history.

Groeger led the Hornets with seven victories and 109.0 innings pitched. The senior from Diamond Bar, Calif., also threw a team-high five complete games including an 8-3 win at Fresno State on May 4. Groeger finished second on the squad with a 4.95 ERA and struck out 77 batters during the year while walking 49.

Alvarez, a sophomore from Fontana, Calif., was 12-2 with a 2.55 ERA in the regular season. He will guide the 49ers into the NCAA Regional this weekend at Stanford.

Verbryke batted .335 with 14 home runs and 52 RBI. The junior hit .391 with 26 runs and 27 RBI in league games. Verbryke was just one of five Matadors to be named to the first team. He was joined by teammates Jason Allec (C), Shaun Larkin (2B), Ryan Haag (3B) and Jason Gorman (SS). The Matadors will enter this weekend as the No. 2 seed at the USC regional.
