RENO, Nev. --- Chris Kinsey, Casey Fuller, Ryan Brown and Tim Reimer each hit home runs to help the Sacramento State baseball team to an 8-7 win over Nevada Tuesday afternoon at a snowy Pecole Park.
The win improved the Hornets to 16-27 overall and halted the team's eight-game losing streak. The victory also completed a two-game series sweep for Sacramento State against Nevada. The Wolf Pack dropped to 18-25 overall.
The Hornets posted a single run in the first inning when Reimer scored on a sacrifice fly from Fuller. Nevada, however, responded with two runs in the second inning to take the lead, 2-1.
Sacramento State retook the lead in the third inning with three runs. Sophomore Bret LeVier opened the rally with a double to left and scored on Kinsey's 15th home run of the year. Fuller immediately followed with his fourth round-tripper of the right field fence.
Nevada bounced back with a run in the third inning and scored two more in the fourth to pull ahead, 5-4. In the fourth, JaRell McIntyre drove in a run with a single to center and the second run scored on a LeVier error.
The Hornets took the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning. LeVier, again, doubled to start the inning and scored on a Fuller single to right. Brown then cleared the bases with a homer to left. The team scored its final run of the game in the eighth inning on a lead-off home run by Reimer.
Nevada began its comeback in the seventh inning with a single run coming on a bases-loaded walk. After a brief delay in the game due to snow, the Wolf Pack made the score, 8-7, when Jacob Butler singled to left scoring a run.
Senior Jeff Groeger earned his first career save by retiring Nevada in order in the ninth.
Freshman Warren Rosebrock improved to 1-0 with the win. Rosebrock threw 3.0 innings and allowed one earned run.
The Hornet offense was paced by Reimer, LeVier, Kinsey, Fuller and Pedro Santiago with two hits apiece.
Nevada was led by Tony Cappuccilli who went 3-for-3.
The team travels to Fresno State to play a three-game series against the Bulldogs starting on Friday at 7 p.m.
