WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Tyler Fitch allowed just two runs through 6.2 innings and four Cal Poly players recorded two hits to lead the Mustangs to a 7-2 Big West Conference victory at a rainy Raley Field on Friday night.The victory improved Cal Poly to 22-23-1 overall and 7-6 in the Big West. The Hornets dropped to 15-25 overall and 0-12 in league games.
Sacramento State posted the first run of the game when Chris Kinsey followed a Bret LeVier triple with a single to right. The Mustangs tied the game with a run in the second inning and moved ahead to stay with four runs in the third.
Aaron Escobedo opened the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second base. Scott Anderson and Bryan Gant then loaded the bases with back-to-back walks before Kyle Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Brian Haskell added a single to score another run before Chalon Tietje tripled to right center to plate two more runs.
The 5-1 advantage proved to be plent for Fitch who improved to 7-4 this season. Fitch allowed five hits while walking five and striking out three.
Wilson, Haskell, Escobedo and Adam Leavitt each recorded two hits to lead the Cal Poly offense. Sacramento State was paced by senior Ryan Brown’s two doubles.
The two teams will continue the three-game series on Saturday. The game will start at 1 p.m. and will be played at Hornet Field on the Sacramento State campus.
