BASEBALL RALLIES FOR 6-3 WIN OVER CAL POLY

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Senior Mike Miranda threw his third

complete game of the season to lead Sacramento State to a 6-2 win

over Cal Poly Sunday afternoon at Baggett Stadium.

The win improved the Hornets to 19-28 overall and 3-9 in the Big West

Conference. It also snapped the team's four-game losing streak and

prevented a three-game sweep by Cal Poly. The Mustangs dropped to

28-17 overall and 6-3 in league games.

Cal Poly jumped to an early lead behind a solo home run by Kevin

Tillman in the first inning. The Mustangs added to their advantage in

the fourth on a pair of doubles by Kyle Wilson and Keith Anderson to

lead 2-0.

Sacramento State answered in its next at-bat. Tim Maghan opened the

inning with a single and moved to second on an infield single by Tito

Barba. Aurelio Jackson then singled to right scoring Maghan. Freshman

Bobby Ciani followed with a single to load the bases and Carlos

Morales added a single to left to tie the score. Cal Poly was able to

end the rally when Daryl Grant hit into a 1-2-3 double play.

The Hornets took the lead in the seventh inning. Jackson opened the

inning with a single to left. After a pitching change, Ciani single

to right. Another pitching change brought Kevin Correia into the game

and Morales welcomed him by hitting a three-run home run over the

left field fence to give the team a 5-2 lead. Sacramento State tacked

on another run in the ninth when Morales scored from third on a balk.

Miranda improved to 7-4 with the win. The Stockton, Calif., native

scattered seven hits and struck out four with only two walks.

Sacramento State returns home to host Hawai'i on Tuesday. The game is

a makeup from Feb. 21 contest which was rained out. The team will

then move to Raley Field to play No. 3 Stanford on Wednesday at 6:30

p.m.
