MEN'S SOCCER TABBED FOURTH IN MPSF PRESEASON POLL

The Hornets were selected No. 4 in the 2011 MPSF Preseason Coaches Poll.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State men's soccer team has been ranked No. 4 in the 2011 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation preseason coaches poll, the league announced Monday.
The Hornets, who are coming off their second-consecutive MPSF Tournament title and NCAA second round appearance, tallied 30 points in the poll.
Sacramento State came in behind New Mexico and Denver, which tied for second with 41 points, and preseason favorite Cal State Bakersfield, which earned 46 points and a league-high five first place votes.
The Hornets swept through the 2010 MPSF Tournament, defeating No. 4 seed Air Force, 6-2, in the quarterfinals, No. 1 seed Denver, 3-1, in the semifinals and knocked off No. 2 seed Cal State Bakersfield, 2-1, in overtime in the championship match.
Sacramento State continued to roll in the postseason last year, defeating Santa Clara, 2-1, in the first round of the NCAA tournament before losing at No. 8 ranked UCLA in the second round.
The Hornets return top scorer Chris Bettencourt as well as goalkeeper Cesar Castillo, who posted eight shutouts with a 0.90 goals-against average a year ago.
Sacramento State opens up the 2011 season against Loyola Marymoung at 2 p.m. on Aug. 27. The Hornets also have home exhibition games against Cal State Stanislaus at 2 p.m. on Friday and against Stanford at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
