SAFFOLD LEADS WOMEN'S GOLF INTO FOURTH PLACE AT CAL POLY

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s golf team sits in fourth place following the first round of the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational on Monday. The Hornets shot 301 in the round and are six strokes behind leading San Jose State for the overall lead.
Sophomore Samantha Saffold led the team with a round of 73. Saffold shot 37 on the front nine holes and 36 on the back and is tied for eighth overall. Freshman Justine Chen is tied for 10th are shooting 36-38-74. Junior Brooke Green cared a round of 37-38-75 and is tied for 14th.
Sacramento State also received a round of 79 from freshman Julie Shutler and an 82 from freshman Hayley Holloway.
Bradley’s Bari Erais and Xavier’s Mary Beth McKenna are tied for the individual lead at a 3-under 69. The pair have a two-stroke lead on three golfers who are tied for second.
The 36-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday.
