FORMER MEN’S SOCCER PLAYER KIRK KLUG DEFIES ODDS TO RETURN TO PITCH
Kirk Klug was a healthy student-athlete who played with Coach Michael Linenberger and the Sacramento State men’s soccer program. He went on to a successful career as the Director of Business Development for Siemens Industry and a happy family life with a wife and two kids living in the Sacramento area.

KICKOFF TIMES ANNOUNCED FOR FIRST THREE FOOTBALL GAMES
The Sacramento State football team will spend its first three weeks under the lights as all three nonconference games will be played at night. Kickoff times for Big Sky Conference games will be announced at a later date.

The Sacramento State baseball team has nine student-athletes competing this summer in wood bat leagues around the country and into Canada. Summer leagues run from the beginning of June into the first week of August.

BOTTANO, DEL CURTO INVITED TO NCAA CAREER IN SPORTS FORUM
Sacramento State gymnast Paige Bottano and men's soccer player James Del Curto were selected to participate in the 2016 NCAA Career in Sports Forum which will take place in Indianapolis on June 2-5. The pair represent two of three student-athletes that were chosen from Big Sky Conference schools.

KINLOCH RECORDS SECOND LONGEST DISCUS THROW IN SCHOOL HISTORY
The 2016 Sacramento State track & field season came to a close but not before James Kinloch set a personal best and the second best throw in the discus in school history. Kinloch had a toss of 179-10 which bettered his previous long by 4-feet, 6-inches. That mark is longest by a Sacramento State athlete since Dave McKenzie threw 181-01 in 1971.

BASEBALL RALLIES TWICE BUT OUTLASTED BY NEW MEXICO STATE 5-4
Sacramento State rallied from deficits of 3-1 and 4-3 with two runs in the eighth inning and another in the ninth but New Mexico State got a walk-off RBI single from Greg Popylisen in the bottom of the ninth for a 5-4 win on Friday at the WAC Tournament.

BASEBALL BATTLES FOR 8-7 WIN OVER NORTHERN COLORADO IN WAC TOURNAMENT
Senior Chris Lewis and sophomore PJ Floyd hit 2-run home runs and the Hornets rallied from an early 6-0 deficit to defeat Northern Colorado, 8-7, in the first game of the 2016 WAC Tournament.

THREE HORNET BASEBALL PLAYERS NAMED ALL-WAC
Sacramento State had three players named to the All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) team at the conference awards banquet Tuesday night in Mesa, Ariz. Junior right handed pitcher Max Karnos was named to the first team while senior outfielder Chris Lewis and junior right handed pitcher Tyler Beardsley were selected to the second team.

BASEBALL OFF TO ARIZONA FOR 2016 WAC TOURNAMENT
Looking for its second WAC Tournament title in the last three years, Sacramento State (29-26, 16-11 WAC) opens tournament play at 3 p.m. Wednesday against Northern Colorado (16-32, 11-12 WAC). The six-team, double-elimination tournament runs through at least Saturday and to Sunday if necessary at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.

Sacramento State pounded out 11 hits and chipped away after Seattle U took an early 6-0 lead but fell short in the regular season finale, 6-3, on Saturday at John Smith Field.

In a game that started at 9:30 p.m. after a two and a half hour rain delay, Seattle U sophomore lefty Nick Meservey permitted just two hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over eight shutout innings to lead the Redhawks to a 3-0 win over Sacramento State.
