JAMES JANUARY EARNS NATIONAL ACADEMIC AWARD
Sacramento State's James January earned all-academic honors from the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2013-14 season. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of at least 3.25 and have finished among the top 96 in Div. I in their respective event.

KICKOFF TIMES SET FOR 2014 HOME FOOTBALL GAMES
Kickoff times for the six Sacramento State home football games were officially announced today. The Hornets will play their first four home games at 6 p.m. while the final two will come at 2 p.m.

FOOTBALL PICKED SEVENTH BY COACHES, NINTH BY MEDIA IN PRESEASON POLL
The Sacrameno State football team was picked to finish seventh by the coaches in the Big Sky Conferfence preseason poll and ninth by the media, it was announced on Monday at the Big Sky Kickoff.

Sacramento State wide receiver DeAndre Carter was named to the Big Sky Conference preseason all-conference team it was announced today as part of the Big Sky Kickoff.

BASEBALL ADDS EIGHT PLAYERS, SIX FROM THE SACRAMENTO AREA
The Sacramento State baseball team welcomed eight new Hornets who will officially join the program this fall as announced by head coach Reggie Christiansen. Six of the eight newcomers are local to the Sacramento area.

BROADNAX NAMED TO CFPA TIGHT END WATCH LIST
Sacramento State tight end Chris Broadnax was named to the College Football Performance Awards watch list for 2014. Broadnax is the third Hornet to earn a preseason honor as he joins quarterback Garrett Safron and wide receiver DeAndre Carter.

BARTEK, PERSSON NAMED WGCA ALL-AMERICAN SCHOLARS
Sacramento State's Chloe Bartek and Lisa Persson were both named Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars. The pair were part of just 664 student-athletes from Div. I, II and III to earn the award. The criteria for the selection is one of the strictest as each recipient must have at least at 3.50 grade point average.

Sacramento State senior wide receiver DeAndre Carter was named to The Sports Network's Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-America third team, it was announced today.

LAWANSON, MONTGOMERY ADDED TO FOOTBALL COACHING STAFF
Sacramento State head football coach Jody Sears officially completed his coaching staff with the additions of Samuel Lawanson and James Montgomery, it was announced today. Lawanson will serve as the Hornets' running backs coach while Montgomery will be an offensive assistant. Jason Pollak, who was the offensive assistant in 2013, was elevated to wide receivers coach.

Eight Sacramento State spring teams have combined for 36 conference all-academic honors in the sports of women’s golf, softball, baseball, rowing, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field.

Senior women’s tennis player Sophie Lohscheidt and football player Markell Williams have been selected as Sacramento State’s 2014 Big Sky Scholar Athlete Award winners, the conference announced.

First baseman Sasha Margulies was selected to represent the United States at the annual Prague Softball Tournament in the Czech Republic.
