Health and Nutrition


Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) embraces a holistic and collaborative approach to healthcare by offering urgent care, primary care, preventive services, wellness education, violence support services, and mental health services to the Sacramento State campus community. SHCS is located in The Well, near the Broad Athletic Fieldhouse.  Please click here for a full listing of available services and contact information.

All currently enrolled students who pay health fees are eligible for services at SHCS.  Some fees may apply to specialty services, procedures, vaccines and supplies.  Any services received off campus are the financial responsibility of the student.  Associated Students Inc. offers health insurance to students; for more information, click here or call 1-800-853-5899.


Nutrition services offered at SHCS include individual counseling and group classes.  Among the services provided are:

  • Individual Nutrition Counseling (including sports nutrition, eating disorders, etc.)
  • Diet Analysis
  • Information, Education, and Resources on Healthy Eating

Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs

The Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Education Program works to reduce the harm associated with high risk drinking, tobacco and drug use through education, collaboration, student leadership development, and provision of resources to support and encourage healthy choices. Services include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Classes on substance use and risk reduction
  • Tobacco cessation resources

Violence & Sexual Assault Support Services

SHCS employs a Victim Advocate to provide confidential support services to victims of sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating/domestic violence, and stalking. The Victim Advocate is on call 24 hours a day and assists victims by:

  • Explaining options
  • Arranging for counseling, academic intervention, and restraining orders
  • Providing accompaniment to law enforcement interviews, medical exams, court proceedings, and disciplinary proceedings

Counseling services
offered at SHCS employ a problem focused, short-term approach that helps students resolve conflicts and promote optimal functioning. When SHCS services are not the best counseling option, we will assist students in finding more appropriate services on or off campus. Among the services provided are:

  • Individual counseling (including anxiety, depression, relationship concerns)
  • Group counseling
  • Crisis intervention
  • Sports psychology
